Twenty weeks
In just twenty weeks from now, we will be in the beginning days of the December/January PHR and SPHR testing window. If you are the type who has all your Christmas shopping done before Halloween and you already know what you’ll be doing for Spring Break 2009, it’s time for you to begin studying. Procrastinators, you’ve still got plenty of time. Why rush?
I have written before about how long it takes to prepare for the HR certification exams. Many factors combine to determine how much time you, personally, need to devote to preparation, including your work experience, your educational background, and how efficiently you study. Really, the important thing is to make a schedule and stick to it.
If you don’t have study materials, now would be a good time to order them. If you are thinking of taking a class, find out what your options are. Do you have colleagues who are also planning to take the PHR or SPHR exam? Organize a study group. I know the next testing window seems a long way off, but it will be here before we know it.
Yikes! There are just 161 shopping days left until Christmas.

Wild week at work. I was gonna quit then decided to stay, we had an audit thought I might get fired. My Staffing coordinator who was going to quit had a family emergency and will be back but not til Thursday and I was stuck here with the auditor and my boss who has not been on good terms with me since Vegas!! And not you remind me that the test is coming up again. Well, believe it or not I am looking forward to the test. I realize that I need that certificate. It would help open many doors— and it would just make me feel good. So, I am going to look at your site to see what I need to buy to study better this time so I can pass this thing!!!!!!! Here’s to the next 20 weeks!

DO you have to take course in order to get your PHR certification, or can you use the study materials an dthen pass the test? Are there any requirments to take the test in December?

Andrea: There is no required course or study materials for the PHR and SPHR exams. Most people find it helpful to study, however. The only requirement is that you have sufficient work experience. You can read about it on the HRCI website:
